02 · How to grow
How to grow ornamental gourd from seed
Sow seeds outdoors after the danger of spring frost has passed. The seed company recommends sowing in late spring, once soil reaches 70 °F (21 °C).
Plant seeds about ½ inch to 1 inch (1.3 to 2.5 cm) deep, with 2 seeds per spot. Thin to one plant per spot once the seedlings are established.
Gourd seeds have hard seed coats. Soaking them in water overnight, for up to 24 hours, speeds germination, and nicking the edge with a file also helps.
Mature plants reach about 3.3 to 4.9 feet (1 to 1.5 m) tall and wide. Full sun suits them best.
